Although non-native, white clover is considered naturalized and beneficial. Deer, rabbits and many other animals as well as insects, consume white clover. It's a great nectar source for pollinators and hosts several butterflies such as the Painted Lady and Clouded Sulfur. 

White clover is also a nitrogen fixing plant, fixing about 100-150 pounds of nitrogen per acre annually. It's often grown with hungry edible plants and can act as a natural alternative to synthetic N fertilizer, removing the fertilizer runoff problem from your lawn. 

At Green Steeze, we often use white clover as a lawn alternative where deer pressure is heavy. Deer may still nibble on desire plants, but they can consistently graze on white clover throughout the year if the conditions support its growth.
