We donate trees! As we're weeding out invasive plants we often come across good native saplings that can't be left to grow where they germinated. We dig them up & drop them off to be potted & cared for by volunteers. We also coordinate pick-ups during planting season so the saplings can be replanted in a forever home within the DMV (DC/MD/VA) area.

When saplings enter the program they are usually between 2" & 1' in height. Typically they are donated when they've reached about 2'. Some are fast growers & are often 3-6' before reaching their forever homes.

Benefits The benefits are incredible! By planting saplings we are encouraging biodiversity, creating green space, & improving availability of native trees.

What do we get out it? All of our lives are improved by supporting tree conservation within our communities. Planting native trees means clean air & water, & comfortable temperatures for the DMV. As most of our land is privately owned, we are encouraging residential property owners to plant more trees.

Foster Trees By temporarily caring for trees you can enjoy watching them grow in a place you wouldn't be able to plant them normally. They don't require much space at all. You can foster on a deck, balcony, patio, etc. This is a huge help!

Love Planting? We do too! In the fall we coordinate tree planting events for volunteers who love planting.

Donations We accept potted native tree saplings, potting soil, compost (fully composted), 20 -30 gallon storage bins & gallon sized plant containers. (Spring & Fall)

Current Tree Inventory We typically have the following trees which will be available for donation in the spring & fall.. (we do not give away trees once temperatures rise above 75 degrees) In the fall we will have more specific info.

  • Red Maple
  • Silver Maple
  • Freeman's Maple
  • Eastern Redbud
  • Red Oaks
  • White Oaks
  • Red Mulberry
  • Sweet Gum
  • Black Locust
